ALBUM PRESS RELEASE

An audience of 25,000 fans lines the streets in Sao Paulo Brazil, the 3rd largest city in the world, with a population larger than New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston combined, awaiting the presence of an eighth generation French speaking native Creole from Southwest Louisiana. Hailing from the small church community of St. Landry Parish, considered the "Capital of Zydeco Music," enters Terrance Simien ambassador of both his state and his beloved Zydeco - the indigenous music created from the combination of the rich multi-racial, multi-cultural heritage of African, French, Spanish and Native American roots - to a roaring reception.

Making good on a request from his fans to put that live excitement on album, Terrance Simien and the Zydeco Experience release LIVE WorldWide on AIM International. The album features recordings from Simien’s legendary live performances, which have garnered praise from Billboard as being "One of the Best Live Performance Acts of the Year." The compilation consists of recordings taken from tours close to home such as Chicago, New York and New Orleans to places across the globe like Cuba, Australia, and West Africa.

For years friends of the band have asked us to do a live CD
that captures that spontaneous energy that is often difficult
to recreate with a studio recording. There is such a great
power that comes from a live music experience, so it was
definitely time for a live CD.

Simien takes Zydeco music to the next level, being the first to make the Caribbean connection through his incorporation of reggae into his indigenous genre already fueled by the unique styling of the accordion and rubboard, African beats and funk. Dr. John once said, "if the music ain’t changing - it’s dyin".

Like most people I listen to a wide range of music so I have
always blended those styles that inspire me with my indigenous music.
Zydeco by nature is a hybrid: a mixture of early
European waltzes, African and Native American rhythms and
later jazz, blues, gospel and early rock and roll.
To make my Afro-Caribbean connections I have been fusing
reggae with Zydeco for almost 20 years.
I celebrate my Louisiana Creole connections by combining
New Orleans second line and funk that seems to fit beautifully
together because we are all part of a larger culture that
connects us musically as well.

Simien continues to evolve and spread his new generation of eclectic Zydeco roots music across the globe. In the past 25 years, Terrance Simien has become a respected cultural ambassador. His outreach includes a recent tour of the Middle East, North Africa and the Sudan with USIA.

Traveling internationally to more than 45 countries in my career
has made me realize how big our world is,
yet as big as it is we all still connect in some very basic ways
with music being the international language.
Being a multicultural and multiracial Creole gives me an
opportunity to make so many cultural connections in my travels.
-T. Simien
