We welcome Reza Khan / Painted Diaries to the Fly family. Hear one of his new songs on the Delta In-flight "Destination: The World" show, linked at right. His new album is being finished now. He will be available in NY, East Coast and by arrangement to perform with special guests from his new album... (We're Talking about Heads, and the horn player is often going to Graceland). His touring band is also booking February and beyond across the US.
In the liner notes for Member's Only from 1991 Reza Khan notes he, "Returned to grass roots and visited Bangladesh again. At the time I was approached by a local Label to release a CD in Bengaly based on the western influences. I worked with many local talents including several from popular bands in Bangladesh and some good friends. The songs were focused on melancholy and poetry that reflects "Life, Joy, Bitterness, Politics etc ...
The release was distributed by the "Dawn Recording Group" and sold over 500,000 copies throughout the country ..
With over a half million records sold from his debut album the return of the original world music artist, Reza Khan has come at last. The long awaited third release from Reza Khan, The Painted Diaries Project, is set to be out Spring 2009.
I was always fascinated by the short stories
that provide snippets of life we live everyday.
There is so much that happens everyday,
everywhere in this world.
In which, some makes it to the news papers and media
but mostly disppears in peoples diaries....
The "Painted Diaries" is a compilation of short stories
that over the years touched my heart
-one way or the other-
which I painted using musical notes and instruments
instead of brushes...
Reza contends it was geo cultural experiences which affected his music the most. His musical influences include the Beatles, Ravi Shankar, The Eagles, Pat Matheney, Rippingtons and Acoustic Alchemy, as well as lots of jazz and new age. His earliest music was influenced heavily by classic and country rock, which slowly began to incorporate elements of jazz and world music in the 90's. Now, it has become something of a hybrid, encompassing all genres.
